Our servers are for you to use at your premises to help run your local network and shouldn't be confused with other companies' server rental (or hosting) service where the server stays at their premises connected to the Internet and the main purpose is usually to host websites.
You choose the minimum rental period you want to commit to: 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.
The longer the minimum rental period, the lower the monthly rental fee.
You can end the rental period at any time without giving advance notice.
If you end the rental period before the agreed minimum rental period there's a penalty charge up to a maximum of one month's rent. Otherwise the rental carries on indefinitely after the minimum rental period until you choose to end it. The reward for continuing is a 5% reduction in the monthly rental fee and then further reductions as the loan period passes each minimum rental milestone at 3, 6 and 12 months.
With all minimum rental period options the monthly rental fee's the same after 12 months. If you're after a long-term server rental this allows you to try us out and then continue on if you like the arrangement.
Examples of rental fees are shown in the table further down this page.
We deliver and install the server at your premises and do all the necessary setting up to make it work the way you want it. You choose the level of ongoing management you need from us and we're on 24hr call for any hardware problems.
For full terms and conditions, download a sample rental agreement in Word 6/95 format here (57kbytes).
If you don't have any on-site IT staff, or don't want to increase existing staff's workload, we'll administer the server by monitoring its performance, making any necessary changes to user accounts and network shares and solving problems as they arise. We do as much of this as we can remotely but we will come to your site when necessary.
With this option you're renting the hardware, software, and expertise to set up, administer and maintain the server.
(It's this expertise that's expensive and, if you own your own servers, you usually pay for it in your wages bill.)
The cost of the Fully Managed option depends on the anticipated workload. As an example we offer our Network Engineer's Advisory Service, detailed here. The cost depends on the number of workstations you have, as an average example it's shown here as a £200/month add-on to the Hardware & Software Only rental option..
If your IT staff want to setup and manage the server their way then that's fine. They can control who accesses the server which includes, if desired, disabling any user accounts we have.
In this case you're renting the hardware, software, expert help with the initial setup and any subsequent problems but not the day-to-day administration. We'd be providing 2nd level software support.
If you can install the server yourself and don't need any software support you can save 10% on the Co-managed rate by just renting the server hardware, software and software licences - on-site hardware repair is still included of course.
Maybe you've already got all your own software and full IT support and just need the hardware. If you just want to rent the hardware you can have 25% off the Co-managed rental rate.
We'll include a CD of Windows 2000 and NT drivers for the server's hardware components.

The service is available within the outer oval of our Extended Area - shown below (Birmingham, Leicester, Cambridge, M25, Sevenoaks, Basingstoke, Swindon, Cheltenham) - but if you're within our Local Area we aim to be at your site configuring the server in less than 4 hours regardless of the time of day.
Within the Extended Area it will take us a little longer to get to you and the delivery charge will be a bit more.

If you need some extras to make full use of your rented server - such as cabling for additional network access points or a network switch, patchfield or equipment rack - then we can normally handle this as part of the server installation process.
Such extras can be added to the rental or paid for as a one-off cost, whichever's more appropriate.
Perhaps one of your hardware routers has failed. A Windows 2000 server makes a very capable and flexible router and our servers are ready to go as LAN-to-LAN, LAN-to-ISDN, LAN-to-ADSL, or VPN routers.
If, for
some reason, we can't get our server to work with your network then there's no
charge.
All rental types come with 24x7 on-site
hardware support and a call-out time of 4 hours for sites in our Local Area.
This also applies to software support for the Fully Managed option although we
try to do this remotely whenever possible.
All data you store on the server
remains your property. If we have access to it we'll treat it confidentially and
not disclose any details to third parties. We'll securely delete any data left on servers
that come back from loan. If you like you can reformat the hard drives before
returning the server.
Unless you
tell us otherwise, we won't use our access to your network to reveal or reset
any passwords or change any access permissions.
Our servers
are insured for loss and damage under normal circumstances as long as it's not
caused by negligence or malicious acts by you or your employees. They have to be
installed in a location where they're reasonably secure against being stolen or
damaged.
For our
servers to work properly in your network it may be necessary to visit each of
you workstation PCs to reconfigure their settings - and you could have hundreds
of them. The Delivery & Installation fee shown in the Typical Rental Costs table
above only includes configuring the servers and one or two workstations just to
prove everything works and to show your staff what to do to the rest. If you
need us to configure all your PCs then we may need to negotiate a separate charge
for this.
