Solutions for Internet access problems - especially for people
travelling or working away from home
We haven't invented some new and revolutionary technology. |
This is what we're trying to do here:- |

|
|
|
Make connections that have stopped working, work again. |
|
|
|
Bypass local restrictions on Internet use. |
|
|
|
Increase Internet Speed and Reliability. |
|
As you read the details of our services, bear in mind they're designed to strike a
balance between, on the one hand, protecting your privacy and imposing no
limitations on personal use and, on the other hand, preventing us being
exploited - especially for criminal activities. |

Full Internet Access via VPN |
Make a VPN connection to a server in the UK and then have Internet access for virtually all types of traffic | Possible Uses:- Accessing blocked websites VOIP phones Instant Messaging FTP not working properly Bypassing limitations of a hotel firewall Watch the BBC iPlayer from anywhere in the world |
£17.50 per month |
| At the wilder edges of the Internet there may be factors that neither of us
can control and which prevent our services from working or cause them to
provide no worthwhile improvement. You'll obviously want to test this out before you subscribe. Here's how to try us out:- |
|
| 1 - | Send an email to services@rhebus.com requesting a trial. |
| 2 - | We'll send you instructions and log-on credentials. |
| 3 - | You might connect straightaway without any difficulty otherwise our Technical Team can help sort out any problems. |
| 4 - | Once it's working and the trial period has finished, you decide if you want to subscribe to the service. |
| This might involve:- | |
| Obtaining a dial-up account from a local ISP which you access with a local-rate phone call. If you don't consistently get a connection speed of 28,800 bps or greater then try a different ISP or get a better phone line. | |
| Using an Ethernet cable or wireless networking card to connect to an office network with Internet access. | |
| A Bluetooth link from your laptop to mobile phone and a GPRS connection to the Internet. | |
| Once connected to the Internet you open a
VPN connection to our servers. This second connection is just like connecting to anything else on the Internet - it doesn't require an additional modem or phone call and doesn't incur any connection or usage charges above the monthly fee you pay to us.

The Problem
|
Some Websites and Internet applications which work fine at home, aren't working at your location, due to local limitations on Internet access
The Cause |
Your website requests are being filtered or the TCP ports that you need to use for your application have been blocked, often inadvertently, by your hotel, office or local ISP
Our Solution |
We provide you with a logon account
which allows you to connect, over the Internet, to our servers in the UK
using an encrypted link. All Internet-bound traffic then passes over this link and is routed out onto the Internet in the UK. Your PC appears to be located in the UK. All versions of Windows, from '95 onwards, include all the software required to make the connections. Currently only peer-to-peer file sharing traffic is blocked. |
|
Extra Benefits: |
Faster ConnectionDespite the extra CPU cycles and connection bandwidth required to perform the encryption, the speed of web browsing is usually faster and more reliable over the link. This is because:- |
|
| 1 - | For web browser traffic we have an aggressive active cache running at this end that learns what sites you like to visit and tries to keep an up-to-date local copy available for immediate download. | |
| 2 - | Most countries have high speed Internet links into the UK whereas they may have a slower link between where you are and the web server you're trying to access. | |
| 3 - | The UK servers handle all the overhead required
to establish TCP/IP connections to Internet servers over our fast Internet links. After you've established your connection with a UK server this stays up until you disconnect. |
|
Encryption of Internet TrafficThis may or may not be a benefit - it depends on your particular circumstances. We use 128-bit encryption as standard to minimise the overhead. (Remember that a full record of where you've been browsing can still be recovered from the browser cache and other locations on your hard drive.)All that anyone monitoring your connection at your end will see is encrypted VPN traffic between your PC and one computer in the UK. They will not be able to see what this traffic consists of, e.g. web browsing, email, VOIP or streaming.

What It Costs
|
£17.50 per month (UK pounds)
Limitations |
1 - |
It's possible your local ISP will block your connection to us. A large amount of encrypted traffic might look suspicious, although many business people use a VPN to connect to their company network. |
| 2 - |
We don't provide access to the Internet and so you have to use whatever ISPs are
available in your location. Once you've connected to the Internet, you then make a second connection to us through the first - if you're using a dial-up connection this still just involves using one modem to make one local call. The VPN connection works over all connection methods: wireless, ADSL, cable or mobile phone. |
